White cranes day and night

by Julia Dowe

"In white cranes day and night, cranes appear and disappear at an unreasonably fast pace. The fictitious creation of the mounting and dismounting of a crane, in less than five minutes, is incongruent to my experience of cranes in everyday life. Being able to see the crane assemble and disassemble in less than five minutes gives me a new experience of continuity because the process reaches full circle. However, the extended assault of the rising and falling of a series of cranes further underlines the discontinuity in my experience of this process. Having sequences of cranes framed next to one another fragments my perception of the process of construction and destruction. I begin to notice patterns and rhythms within the larger composition."
